The Plainville Public Library is offering a summer reading program in which participants can track their progress beginning Monday June 23 through Sunday August 17. Registration begins the last day of school, June 20th.

 

Here are the breakdowns on the program:

 

∎ Fizz, Boom, Read (pre-readers and independent readers up to grade 5). Children read (or listen) for 20 minutes a day. For every 7 days of reading, children are ligible for great prizes. Sign up at the children’s department or online via www.plainvillelibrary.org (click on Fizz Boom Read 2014 Children’s Summer Reading). Prizes are generously donated by local businesses.

 

∎ Spark a Reaction (students entering grades 6-12)

For every book read and reviewed, readers will be entered into our weekly raffle drawing. Visit www.plainvillelibrary.org and click on “Spark a Reaction 2014 Teen Summer Reading” to create a free online reading account. Just log in, add the books read, write a review, and your name will automatically be entered into the weekly raffle drawing. Prizes are generously donated by local businesses.

 

∎ Summer Reading Kick-off: Curious Creatures Live Animal Show (all ages). Thursday June 26 at 6:30 p.m. An interactive, educational, and entertaining look at some unusual and exotic creatures.

 

∎ Weekly Summer Programming: Monday June 23 through Friday August 15. Sponsored by the Friends of the Plainville Public Library. All programs listed below are drop in, no registration necessary.

 

∎ E-Storytime (ages 2-6) Mondays June 23 through Aug. 11 at 10:30 a.m. This program includes stories, songs, and fingerplays, with a little technology twist.

Kindle Fires will be available for use during the program. Please note: Space is limited to the first 15 families.

 

∎ Open Craft Mondays (all ages). Drop in anytime between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Science related crafts every Monday June 23 through Aug. 11.

 

∎ Teens Teach (ages 5-11). Mondays at 6 p.m. June 23 through Aug. 11. Need a reading buddy? Always wanted to try a duct tape project? Need some help on your chess game? Our talented teen leaders will be here to teach you something new on Monday nights.

 

∎ Mother Goose on the Loose (ages 0-23 months). Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m., June 24 through Aug. 24. Stories, rhymes, fingerplays and puppets complete this lively morning program for the tiniest library patrons and their caregiver.

 

∎ LEGO Building Club (all ages) Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m., June 25 through Aug. 13. Calling all future engineers! We provide the building blocks and the weekly theme, the possibilities are endless.

 

∎ Summer Family Dinner Theater (all ages). Wednesdays at 6 p.m. June 25 through Aug. 13. Bring your dinner and enjoy family movies all summer long.

∎ Let’s Move Together! (best for ages 2-5). Thursdays at 10:30 a.m., June 26 through Aug. 12. Kids and their caregivers will have some fun moving and grooving to some lively songs.

 

∎ Silly Science Fridays (best for ages 3-11). Fridays at 10:30 a.m., June 27 through Aug. 15. (No class July 4.) Join us for a silly science demonstration followed by some interactive hands-on projects. Weekly themes: 6/27 plants, 7/11 human body, 7/18 sound, 7/25 electricity, 8/1 kitchen science, 8/8 colors, 8/15 surprise!
