Ann Arbor Pioneer’s Rowing Team collected seven medals and garnered the title of third overall in the Michigan State Championship Regatta held on the Grand River, near Grand Rapids, Michigan, on May 17th. The Pioneer Women’s teamed fared even better, winning first overall at the competition. Eighteen Pioneer boats competed, and the team brought home two golds, four silvers, and a bronze.

The day threatened rain, but ended up sunny and warm, with a light breeze, which came close to perfect rowing weather.

 

The Women’s Lightweight 8 grabbed the first Pioneer gold medal of the day, with a time winning time of 6:06.8. The second gold went to the Women’s Junior 4+, with a time of 6:42.0.

 

Silver medals went to the Women’s Lightweight 4+, with a time of 6:51.6; the Women’s Junior 8, with a time of 6:04.8; the Men’s Junior 8, with a time of 5:17.1; and the Women’s Varsity 8, with a time of 5:48.7.

 

The Men’s Junior 4+ took grabbed a bronze, with a time of 5:54.3.

 

Ann Arbor Pioneer had a remarkable showing at States, and also did well at the Midwest Regionals this year. The last regatta of the season will be an international event at St. Catherine’s, Ontario, Canada, near the beginning of June.
