COLUMBIA, Mo. – Three Tiger women were recognized on the Southeastern Conference (SEC) awards list after the team’s seventh-place finish at the conference championhips two weeks ago, as released on Tuesday.  Included on the list is Mizzou track and field’s first SEC Scholar-Athlete Award winner, junior Jill Rushin, who was double-honoree with her First Team All-SEC finish in the shot put.

This is not Rushin’s first recognition for her work in the classroom, as she holds a 3.87 cumulative GPA studying biological sciences and religious studies.  She is a two-time USTFCCCA (U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association) Academic All-American (2012-13), and was named to the 2013 SEC Academic Honor Roll.

In the ring, Rushin currently ranks at No. 2 in the NCAA for the shot put behind teammate Kearsten Peoples, and holds the No. 2 mark in the Mizzou record books for the indoor and outdoor shot put, and discus.  She earned her first All-American finish during the indoor season with a sixth-place finish in the shot put, and holds five All-SEC honors, including a conference title in the shot put earned two weeks ago in Lexington, Ky.

Joining her on the All-SEC Teams are junior Kearsten Peoples (All-SEC Second Team) and freshman Kaitlyn Fischer (SEC All-Freshman Team).  Peoples, who earned All-SEC First Team for the indoor shot put earlier this year, was runner-up in the shot put two weeks ago.  Fischer was the top freshman finisher in the 10,000-meter run, fourth overall, and adds this to the SEC Freshman of the Year honor earned during the cross country season.

The trio of women and 19 of their teammates now look to take on the NCAA Championships West Region this week in Fayetteville, Ark.  Events will begin on Thursday, May 29th, and go through Saturday, May 31st.  For more information on your Tigers, stay tuned to MUTigers.com and follow the team on Twitter @MIZ_TrackField.
