National Running Day, Trail Day Events To Be Hosted At Dalton State
Dalton State College Campus Recreation invites fitness and nature enthusiasts to participate in two upcoming events on the Dalton State campus. Movers and shakers are invited to walk or run around the campus track on National Running Day, Wednesday, June 4, and those who thrive in the great outdoors can hike the campus nature trails on National Trails Day, Thursday, June 5. Both events are free and open to the community.
National Running Day, a coast-to-coast celebration of fitness, is held annually on the first Wednesday of June. Starting at 2 p.m. on June 4 at the blue building next to the Dalton State track, National Running Day participants can celebrate fitness and health by running or walking at their own pace.
“Even if you are not a runner, are new to the activity or just curious at how to begin, National Running Day is a great way to experience running or walking with others,” said Anne Loughren, assistant director of Campus Recreation.
Participants will be required to sign a waiver before starting; participants are encouraged to bring plenty of water to keep hydrated. Following the run/walk, Ms. Loughren will hold a stretch and relaxation session around 2:30 p.m. at the track.
National Trails Day, created by the American Hiking Society more than 35 years ago, is a country-wide initiative to inspire people to get outside and explore and protect nature trails. Beginning at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 5, the public is invited to hike the Dalton State trail system in the college woods on the west side of the campus.
“Dalton State has some beautiful trails that Dr. John Lugthart, with the assistance of students, faculty and staff, has given us, and what better way to enjoy these trails than by celebrating National Trails Day?” said Ms. Loughren.
Each hiker will be required to sign a waiver before participating. There will be three different trail route options consisting of 30-minute, 45-minute, or one-hour hikes. Participants will meet at the blue building next to the Dalton State track, and are advised to bring water for the hike.
“Come out and enjoy hopefully beautiful weather as we work towards making ours a healthier community!” Ms. Loughren said.
