Cycling safety tips

The Ottawa Bicycle Club is urging motorists to take care when passing cyclists ahead of the club’s annual Rideau Lakes Cycle Tour to Kingston, Ont., this weekend.

Peter Tregunno, president of the Ottawa Bicycling Club, says motorists should pass cyclists like they would pass a slow-moving farming vehicle.

The warning comes after cyclist Roy Chapman was struck and killed in a crash near Kemptville on Sunday.

The club and Ontario Provincial Police say drivers and cyclists need to remember to share the road.

About 2,100 cyclists will be travelling along country roads between Ottawa and Kingston during the cycle tour.
