Howard County natives tabbed for field hockey futures tournament

Field hockey

 Tori Raulin and Paige Reese were selected to participate in the USA Field Hockey National Futures Championship (NFC) tournament at the Spooky Nook complex in Pennsylvania June 27-30. Raulin, who will attend Atholton High School, and Reese, who will attend Glenelg, were among the 13 players selected from 130 participants at the Regional Futures Championships to represent the Chesapeake Region in the U14 age group. Both girls play for the Howard Stampede field hockey club coached by Doug Hamilton.

 

 

Running

The Centennial Fun Run will begin the Summer 2014 series of one-mile runs Tuesday, June 17. All runs are located in the Centennial Neighborhood, and begin promptly at 7:30 p.m. Proceeds from the first run will benefit the Junior Strider Program, and donations of $3 per person are requested. Basketball

HYBA is now accepting registration for the Fall Friday Night Basketball Program. The league is played on Fridays in September and October, and is open to boys and girls ages 5 to 18. To register, visit HYBA.org, or call 410-461-7694.

 

 

Sports camps

The Atholton Athletic Boosters will hold a variety of sports camps this summer at Atholton High School. The summer camps are for incoming third through ninth grade boys and girls, and are taught by high school coaches. Cost is $135 and includes an Atholton Raider T-shirt, individual skills testing, specialized instruction from qualified staff members, guest speakers and daily awards. The Hammond High School Athletic Boosters are hosting sports camps this summer for students in grades 6-9. The camps feature 10 different sports, including lacrosse, wrestling, cheerleading and vocals. Camps are not limited to future Hammond students. Early registration ends June 1. The Glenelg Boosters Sports Camp 2014 is now open for registration. Camps include: football, basketball, lacrosse, wrestling, volleyball, cheerleading, field hockey, speed and agility, softball and baseball. Reservoir High School will also hold sports camps this summer. Information and registration can be found at rhsboosters.com. This year, the program has added additional camps. Not only are some headed by Reservoir coaches, but the school also offers a variety of art, forensic science and drama camps. Some camps are offered for students as young as 2nd grade, while others are for those in middle school. Camps are scheduled for July and early August, and registration is open now. The money raised is used to support extracurricular activities, such as sports team uniforms, tournament fees for teams and clubs, student recognition, staff appreciation, and more.

 

 

The River Hill High School Boosters are sponsoring summer camps this summer. The camps are designed to help young athletes improve their fundamental athletic skills. Weekly camps begin June 16 from 9 a.m. to noon or 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. More than 20 different camps are offered this summer, including football, soccer, baseball, softball, lacrosse, field hockey, volleyball, basketball, cross country, track and field, Allied Sports, cheerleading, weight training, wrestling and dance. Lacrosse

Howard coach Jimmy Creighton (a four-time national champion as a player and assistant coach at Salisbury University) will host a series of camps this summer focusing on playing the game of lacrosse and its fundamentals. The Howard Offensive Skills Academy will run June 14-16 from 4-6 p.m. The Howard Lacrosse Camp will run July 14-17 from 9 a.m. to noon. Camps are through Howard County Recreation and Parks, and will be held at Howard High School.

 

 

Baseball

Leader’s Baseball Camp, presented by 2014 Maryland state champion Reservoir coach Adam Leader, is a two-week camp from July 7-21. Half-day and all-day camps are available. Go to leadersbaseballcamp.weebly.com for more information and to register. At Leader’s Baseball Camp, not only will players learn baseball, they will understand the game of baseball.

 

 

The Oakland Mills baseball camp will be held June 30-July at Oakland Mills High School. Camp is from 9 a.m. to noon each day and cost for the camp is $95. Checks should be made payable to Oakland Mills Boosters and can be brought the first day of camp.

 

 

Golf

Registration is now open for the Fairway Hills Junior Golf League, which is designed for young golfers who have the skills to play nine holes in a safe, skillful and acceptable pace of play. Boys and girls ages 8-17 are encouraged to sign up. In addition to the skill enhancement and further knowledge of the game, participants receive a league collared shirt, range balls, additional instruction and friendly competition. Sessions are on Mondays beginning June 23 through August 25. Tee times are 2-3 p.m. Cost is $50 for Columbia Association members, and $75 for non-members. Soccer

Registration is now open until August 31 for the Elkridge Youth Organization Fall Soccer Program. Reduced fees run through June and July. Those interested are encouraged to register early as spots fill up fast. EYO soccer is a coed, recreational program that places an emphasis on instruction, fitness and fun. Games are played at Rockburn Park, and all players ages 4 to 18 are welcome. There are no tryouts required for the recreational leagues and all players are afforded substantial playing time. Football/Cheerleading

Registration is now open for fall football, poms and cheer for the Ellicott City Patriots. Participants ages 5-14 can enroll. Register through Howard County Recreation and Parks or ecpatriots.com. The organization is also looking for coaches for poms, cheer and football for the upcoming season, which starts in August.
