It is Father’s Day weekend so my things-to-do this weekend list includes some fun family-friendly activities.
“Peter and the Wolf Spring Bouquet”: Abernethy Performing Arts presents the ballet that features a full-length performance of Prokofiev’s tale of the heroic Peter and his animal friends. Show times are 7 p.m. tonight and 1 p.m. Saturday in the West Linn High School auditorium, 5464 W. A St., in West Linn, Admission is $12-$14.
Molalla Brew Fest: Celebrate the craft beer industry at the fourth annual event that continues from 4 to 9 p.m. today and noon to midnight Saturday in downtown Molalla. Wine, root beer and food are also available. Parking is available at 123 E. Ross St. Admission is $20 and includes a commemorative mug and tasting tickets. Minors are permitted with parents until 8 p.m.
Dance Concert: The 17-member Aspen Meadow Band will present a free dance concert Saturday at the Aspen Meadow amphitheater. The family event with the theme “Let Summer Begin” is at 3:30 p.m. at 24232 Upper Highland Road in Colton. Their repertoire includes classic and modern country, folk, oldies, classic rock, coffeehouse music, A cappella and John Denver hits. Bring a blanket or chair and an optional picnic basket.
War Birds Over the West Fly-in and Cruise-in: B-17 Alliance and Aurora Aviation host the family-friendly event on Saturday that features classic cars, vintage aircraft, military vehicles and demonstrations – and a chance to meet WWII veterans, the Civil Air Patrol and local authors. It will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Aurora Aviation, 22785 Airport Road N.E. in Aurora. Admission is $10, or $25 per family. Proceeds benefit the B-17 Lacey Lady Campaign Drive.
Junior Ranger Day: Kids, ages 6-12, and their parents are invited to join a park ranger in the Tryon Creek State Natural Area and learn how to help protect our natural resources, plants and animals. Kids can participate in nature games, crafts and park explorations to earn a badge, patch and certificate.
The free program is offered from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturdays and on a drop-in basis from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays through June 29 at 11321 S.W. Terwilliger Blvd. in Southwest Portland.
Father’s Day Guided Hike: Learn about native trees, plants, flowers and dozens of species during a scenic 45-minute guided hike on Sunday at the Magness Memorial Tree Farm. The free event begins at 11 a.m. and again at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Visitor’s Center at Southwest Ladd Hill Road near Wilsonville. Picnic lunches are welcome, as well as dogs on leashes.
