How Do You Get That Spa Feeling at Home

Sometimes mental wellness can come from environmental factors, like sitting in a spa. Spas create an environment where the wellbeing of your body and mind are looked after, but you can’t go to a spa all of the time, so why don’t you try to make your home the haven you need it to be.

Firstly, find a relaxing scent you love and relaxes you and spread it throughout your home with scented candles, or use essential oils in diffusers or mixed with water and sprayed as an air freshener. Lavender, eucalyptus, and/or ginger are great oils to try and they can fill a room with a lovely, calming aroma.

Next, make your home visually relaxing. Spas are usually uncluttered, with everything having a place and being neatly organised. Keep belongings put away and not left on countertops or on the floor. Clutter is overly stimulating and clearing it can help ease your mind so you can focus on stress reduction and what’s important to you.

Thirdly, add textures in your home to evoke your touch sensation. Find as many different textures as you can, and textures that you like, to maximise this feeling that is a big part of any spa. Chenille, silk, cotton, jute, bamboo and velvet are just a few to get you started, which you can add easily, and you may already have many textures you can utilise such as bath towels, throw blankets, pillows and rugs.

Just like relaxing sights, smells and textures, you need to surround yourself with relaxing sounds in order to focus and reduce stress. Find a type of music that suits you, relaxes you and rejuvenates you – instrumental music and music with nature sounds such as waves, water running and birds chirping can be great options to stat with.

Take care of your final sense – taste – with the decadent teas, fruit and/or vegetable infused water and fresh cut fruit that spas provide. You can find teas in local grocery stores, health food stores and specialty tea shops, and you can find teas with the flavour and strength to suit you. You can infuse water with any single fruit or vegetable or any combination that you like. Why not try cucumber and mint, a citrus blend or water with lemon wedges? Finally, have pretty and nutritional fruits on hand, such as berries, melon and citrus fruits for the perfect final touch to your simple home spa.
