SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ —  Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA hosted and took home the championship of the 2014 C Division Gymnastics State Championships on Sunday, June 1st.  The home team captured the title over a closely matched Somerset Valley YMCA by 1 point.  The third place trophy went to South Mountain YMCA.

 

In the 9 and under age group, each  FSPY gymnast competed in her very first State Championship meet.  Ella Platts received the 3rd place All-Around trophy.  She also earned her the silver medal on Balance Beam, the Bronze medal on Vault, and 4th place on Uneven Bars.  Fourth place All-Around was awarded to Alexandra Dessart, who also earned 4th place on Uneven Bars and Balance Beam, 5th place on Vault, and 6th place on Floor Exercise.  Jillian Miele placed 6th All-Around and earned the Bronze medal on both Balance Beam and Floor Exercise, and placed 4th on Vault.  Liz Parvin captured the Gold Medal on Vault.

 

 
The 10- and 11-year-old age group had a mix of rookie and veterans from the FSPY team.  The All-Around State Champion title was awarded to Che Dashiell, who placed in the top three on every event.  She captured Gold on Balance Beam, Silver on both Vault and Floor Exercise, and the Bronze medal on Uneven Bars.  Naomi Southerland earned 2nd place on the All-Around podium.  Southerland received the Gold medal for her performances on Uneven Bars and Floor Exercise, Silver on Balance Beam and Bronze on Vault.  Fifth place All-Around went  to Anina Dashiell, who also received 4th place on Floor Exercise and 6th place on both Vault and Uneven Bars.  Zoe Wernsing received 6th place All-Around and earned 5th place on both Vault and Balance Beam.  Morgan Whitney earned 4th place on Vault.  Marlena Holston captured 6th place on Floor Exercise.  Lauren Fitzgerald and Madalyn McEvoy also competed in their first State Championship meet.

 

Elizabeth Kern captured the 12 and over All-Around State Champion title.  Kern was also awarded the Gold Medal on Uneven Bars and Floor Exercise and the Bronze medal on Vault.  The 2nd place All-Around trophy was awarded to Nicalina DelRosario, who also captured the Gold Medal on Vault, Silver on Floor Exercise, Bronze on Uneven Bars and placed 4th on Balance Beam.  Sara Banasiak earned the Gold Medal for her performance on Balance Beam.

 

 
Registration is open for Summer Gymnastics Camp and classes at the YMCA.  In addition to gymnastics camp for preschoolers, kindergartners, school aged and competitive gymnasts throughout the summer, there is also a one week Cheerleading camp. Summer classes include parent toddler and preschool gymnastics.  For older children, there are Floor And Uneven Bar specialty classes. This is a great time to begin taking gymnastics at the YMCA.  Birthday parties are also available.
