Darton hosting weekly Tuesday night runs
ALBANY — The Darton State College cross country program hosts a 3K trail run every Tuesday night, and the Albany community is invited.
The race, which is 1.9 miles, begins each Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Darton Tennis Complex and winds through a wooded trail located behind the soccer fields. The cost is $10 per runner or $5 per runner for families of three or more.
Awards are given to the top three runners of each age division, and runners of all ages and skill levels are participating regularly.
“Some walk, some run,” Darton cross country coach Bruce Skiles said. “It doesn’t matter. Just have fun. Everybody that finishes gets a popsicle.”
This is the second summer Skiles, his family and the Darton cross country team have hosted these races. It began as a way to keep kids interested in running during the offseason.
“We want to promote running in the area,” he said, “for anybody — beginners to professionals.”
