NZ equestrian wins in Germany

The New Zealand equestrian Tim Price has won the prestigious Luhmuhlen four-star three-day event in Germany, an event marred by the death of local rider Benjamin Winter in Saturday night’s cross country phase.

Price and his mount Wesko produced a clear showjumping round, and took the trophy when the Olympic champion Michael Jung faulted.

It’s a highly significant victory for Price, with the New Zealand eventing team for the World Equestrian Games in France due to be named next month.

Amongst the other New Zealanders, Jonelle Price finished 12th and 16th, Sir Mark Todd 21st and Kate Wood 27th.
