Time Management and why you should be in control

Time Management is the essence of getting control over your life.  You need to be clear about your priorities, before you plan your schedule.

Time Management is a concept that you still fail at, quite often. No one teaches you on this aspect.  You need to do it yourself.  Prepare a list of things to be done during the day and plan accordingly.

If you are juggling multiple careers, you need to be proficient at Time Management.  Juggling well is a matter of focus and coordination, and managing your life will not be different.

Focus and coordination are skills developed over a period of time.  Those who seem to manage their lives effortlessly have actually perfected Time Management.

Juggling your career as an actor with what you have to do to make ends meet serves as an example of how crucial this skill is. If you pursue a career in acting, you need to work at nights and weekends regularly.  You may have to spend around 15 hours a day in theatre doing films or commercials.  You need to plan your other activities side by side, in the remaining 9 hours a day.

Setting micro and macro goals is the first step to Time Management.  These could be daily goals, weekly goals or even yearly goals.  .

Setting goals is an easy way to prioritise.  You should know what must be done and when.  You need not get upset, when something lower on the list is still pending.

How you plan your Time Management schedule is left to you. You have to be constantly aware of your schedule. It may be on a calendar, old fashioned appointment book, your memory or your phone.

When you adhere to your Time Management schedule, you will feel accountable you’re your duties and responsibilities.

It is a stressful endeavour to juggle multiple careers, your finances, your relationships and all your other interests. If your heart isn’t in it anymore, drop something. Without a driving force, you will end up pulling your hair out and make everyone you know miserable.

You are a human being and not a machine. You need time for yourself to rest.  If you have not slept for three days, waking up to work out is probably not worth your time, especially if you have three appointments, have to work for eight hours and then chauffeur your kids around. Take that extra day of rest and come back at it tomorrow.
