St Mary’s Kitende look to Malinga & Isiagi magic | National Juniors Volleyball
6th National Junior Volleyball Meet:
20th – 21st June 2014
At Kings College Budo
After inspiring team Uganda to the World U-19 beach volleyball Championships, Curthbert Malinga and Elias Isiagi will switch allegiance to St Mary’s Kitende against the rest of the schools.
45 girls and boys teams are expected to take part during the 6th edition of the national volleyball juniors’ championship at Kings College Budo this coming weekend.
The boys defending champion, Kinawa High School is expected to have an acid test from perennial contenders, St Mary’s Kitende as they embark on their quest to retain the crown.
Kitende boosted their squad with the acquisition of last year’s Most Valuable Player (MVP), Daudi Okello (from nemesis, Kinawa High School).
Okello has previously guided Kinawa to their 3rd national Junior championship title and the ball games accolade in Hoima.
Warning against Non-Students:
“Schools should avoid fielding mercenaries (non students) lest they risk disqualification with a likelihood of further punishment”, Uganda Volleyball Federation (UVF) schools’ commission chief, Edgar Karungi warns.
The two-day tournament is to feature a massive turn up as over 20 & 25 boys’ and girls’ teams respectively.
Each school is required to field at least two foreign players.
“This is a policy aimed at promoting the local talents for Ugandan youth”, Karungi clarifies.
In the girls category 3 times champions, Trust High School will have to work up her attack trade to evade likely targeted resistance from Kinawa High School Mugogo, Maryhill high school ,Nabisunsa girls and Kawempe Muslim.
