Today, “Get to know” … kicker slash punter Alex Howell.

Name: Alex Howell

Position:K/P

Number: #42

Year: Junior

Height: 6-foot-5

Weight: 208 lbs.

Hometown: Florence, SC

High School: West Florence HS

2013 Stats: Played in the Independence Bowl Game against Arizona, where he had one kickoff that went for 63 yards. He also played in one game in 2012 as well.

2014 Projections: I wouldn’t be surprised if Howell gets the Nate Freese treatment in 2014 and plays as both the starting kicker and punter. His punting wasn’t overly impressive in the spring game, but he did look respectable in his field goal attempts. With freshman Mike Knoll coming to campus this summer, I’d expect that Howell will get the nod and play both positions. However, I think it would be unfair to compare him to what we saw out of Nate Freese last year. Howell hasn’t had the experience that Freese had in 2013, so there may be some bumps for the junior.

How’d He Get Here: Alex was a 2* out of Florence, SC that at the time was the 10th ranked kicker in the country. He did not have any other offers at the time, and was recruited by Mike Dawson.

Twitter Feed: Nope

Tweetables: Even though Alex doesn’t have Twitter here he is, chilling on the beach with Nate Freese and their kicking coach

Uniform History: The first known player to wear #42 for BC was guard John Maloney in 1914.  Other than that there really wasn’t a lot of successful Eagles who have worn the number. Justice Smith wore the number in the 90’s on his way to rushing for 1,300 yards in his career. CB Isaac Johnson wore the number in 2008 & 2009.
