The Cowboy Way
I have always had a fascination with rodeos and all that the sport implies. I guess it comes partially from growing up on a ranch, but more so with what the traditional rodeos stood for in my eyes, that being hardworking men and women, respectful, unspoiled kids, providing for others and overall simple living.
I hate to hear it said that cowboys are a dying breed and that soon rodeos may cease to exist. I sure would hate to see that happen.
I have been lucky enough to be able to meet many of the very kind folks who belong to the Plainview Rodeo Association through work, and they definitely work hard to make sure that the demise of the local rodeo will not happen in Plainview.
After seeing all the work that is involved in planning a rodeo and participating in one, it is clear to me that these Rodeo Association members have a passion and love for the cowboy way.
With fewer people able to be a part of this niche group each year, those who remain take on more duties. A person would never guess that only a few dedicated cowboys and cowgirls work tirelessly to make the show go on without a flaw.
This weekend Plainview and the surrounding area will have a chance to join the Plainview Rodeo Association at the Bar None Arena as they host their 70th rodeo. It is definitely a fun event that will keep the audience and participants on the edge of their seats in hopes of seeing the next best ride.
One of my favorite parts of the rodeo is the mutt’n bust’n event. This is the event especially made for children. They ride on top of a sheep and hold on for dear life. The child who holds on for the longest time wins the competition. It has to be one of the cutest and most hilarious things I have ever seen.
Watching the big boys is not any less entertaining. I am amazed by what some of these guys are physically able to do and put their bodies through to win these events.
The Bar None Rodeo Drill Team also puts on an enjoyable show and look darn cute as they do. They make their routines look effortless which I am sure only comes from long hours of practice.
If you are looking for a great event this weekend, be sure to visit the rodeo grounds. You will not be disappointed.
You will see some great looking people in their neatly pressed western wear, boots and cowboy hats and be entertained throughout the evening. Let’s support our local rodeo association as their hours of work and effort come to fruition in this 70th Annual Bar None Rodeo.
