Cycling with Style

Two things you don’t normally hear in the same sentence: bicycles and fashion shows. The padded spandex get-ups that cyclists wear aren’t the most fashion-forward ensembles, but there is certainly room for improvement in all of our wardrobes.

That’s why Shorewood is putting on the first-ever bicycle fashion show in conjunction with the Shorewood Criterium Cycling Classic this Thursday, June 19. The “Gear Up for Summer Cycling” fashion show will take place from 9-9:30 p.m. at Kensington Square (Kensington Blvd. and Oakland Ave.) But don’t wait until 9 p.m. to arrive. The bike racing begins at 6:25 p.m. and Three Lions Pub will sponsor a block party at Kensington Square from 2-10 p.m. with live music from Mic over Matter from 5-8:30 p.m.

Shorewood residents will model the freshest apparel and footwear along with the best new bikes and accessories, all available for purchase at Shorewood retailers. There will be everything from high-tech cycling gear to casual weekend riding pieces from Rainbow Jersey, Harley’s the Store for Men, Goldis, Rethreads, Belabela, Swanky Seconds, Alliance Francaise de Milwaukee, Min’s, and Performance Running Outfitters.

Shorewood is actually the first village in Wisconsin to receive the designation of “Bicycle Friendly Community” by the League of American Bicyclists. The Shorewood Business Improvement District is hosting the event. Check out their website for more information about the event and businesses in the area.
