GREENSBORO, N.C. — Just a week after winning the discus at the Division II state meet at Ohio State’s Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium, Trevor Detillion added the title of All-American to his list of accomplishments Sunday when he competed in the New Balance High School track and field meet.

Detillion, who won state with a throw of 181-feet-0, finished sixth in nationals with a throw of 176-7. The All-American honor is the first for Unioto in the national event’s 10-year history.

“That’s amazing for a junior,” Shermans track coach Matt Paxton said. “He’s still a long way from topping out, and he’s throwing with guys who are a lot physically stronger than him. That (Noah) Castle kid, who finished second behind him at state, probably has 10 pounds on him. (Detillion) has gotten to the technique where he’s flawless.”

That technique didn’t develop on its own overnight.

“(Detillion) makes it a 12-month season, so he’s ready,” Paxton said. “That’s what it takes when you start getting to that level. He’s really committed to it. It’s great to see a young man who has that type of commitment. It shows others if you commit to it and commit to it fully, you’ll have success.”
