Drug-related suspension keeps Milton’s Jody Jamieson out of North America Cup

Local harness racing driver Jody Jamieson is currently serving a 15-day suspension handed down by the Ontario Racing Commission after a positive test for the presence of cocaine.

Speaking with the Champion Tuesday afternoon, the 38-year-old Moffat driver admitted he’s more disappointed with himself than the suspension itself — which kept him out of Saturday’s $1-million Pepsi North America Cup at Mohawk.

“I’ve had a 100 million tests before and always been negative. I got myself in a precarious position and produced a positive test,” said Jamieson who’s won the North America Cup twice before, most recently with Up The Credit in 2011. “I’m more embarrassed for my family and friends. I’m as shocked about this behaviour as they are. I’m just trying to get through this.”

ORC Acting Manager of Communications Ray Kahnert said due to the commission’s policy on privacy and confidentially, no commentary or further details can be offered on the matter.

Jamieson’s highly-decorated career includes two World Driving Championship wins — in 2011 and 2001. He’s won just about every other high-stakes race out there.

His driving suspension ends June 23.
