Fedderly doubles up junior title at Northern Lights Raceway
In the second drag racing event of the season for the Northern Lights Raceway, a sunny sky meant some near perfect conditions for the racers.
But only one was able to take first place in their division both days this past weekend.
“You can’t really be over confident (heading into a race),” said Mikayla Fedderly, who went undefeated through the weekend in the junior class. “You can’t underestimate or overestimate anybody. As long as the car runs consistently, and I’m on my reaction times, it should turn out pretty good.”
A grand total of 98 drivers registered for the Fathers Day Drag Race. Each morning, they would line up and rip down the track as fast as they could; some classes topping 200mph. The top times in the 1/4 mile stretch garnered afternoon bracket races, with the finals in each division to conclude the day.
Fedderly, 16, began her junior drag racing career at the age of 8. Her family played a huge role, being past and present racers themselves.
The other huge story of the day came from a new track record which was set. Dawson Creek’s Dale Pederson screamed down the runway in 6.494 seconds, beating the previous record of 6.55 seconds set in 1999.
Up next for the Northern Lights Raceway is the IHRA Div. 6 Pro-Am Race on July 11-13th.
