TEXARKANA, TX (KSLA) – Summer vacation is well underway for students in the ArkLaTex, but for kids in Texarkana, Texas, the learning process continues.

The Tiger Bookmobile is making its summer tour across the City of Texarkana. The rolling library is sponsored by the Texarkana, Texas Independent School District.

Tuesday, the wheeled word bank was in the parking lot of Highland Park Baptist Church. School leaders said the unit is a welcome change to a child’s summertime routine, It allows for creativity and entertainment, and so it reduces the negative perception of summer learning.

“We do this to keep the kids abreast on their reading during the summertime and it gives them something to do,” said librarian Sherrie Green. “They can come in when they have nothing to do and just lounge around with us, read, get on the iPads, play the Wii games and just enjoy themselves.”
