The Reality of Type Two Diabetes: Depression
Type Two Diabetes is a chronic condition, it’s something which sufferers will have to deal with for their whole lives and if they don’t manage it, if they forget about it even for a few days then the consequences could eventually be fatal. Of course, with diabetes being such a common condition a lot of time and research is put into it annually, there are all sorts of literature and information on the best ways to live with the conditions and millions of people do. With the proper consideration and effort, type two diabetes can be managed with lifestyle changes alone and doesn’t have to stop diabetics from getting out there and doing whatever they want to do. They’ve got to be more cautious than most, but for the most part that’s something which they can adapt too.
The thing with a chronic condition is that, though it’s relatively easily managed and though loads of people with diabetes all through their lives and reach healthy ages, it’s still chronic and a diabetics always going to have diabetes regardless of how good they are with the changes. Depressing doesn’t quite cut the feeling of helplessness which can ensue when you know there’s nothing you can do to change the fact that you’re diabetic. Depression is around three times more common in diabetics than it is in the general population and this is partly due to the feeling of helplessness which knowing that you’re stuck with the condition brings about. Nobody likes feeling helpless and impotent.
If you’re worried you’re coming down with depression or a friend or loved one is diabetic and you’re worried that they are, these are some of the symptoms to look out for:
– A feeling of hopelessness, worthlessness and emptiness or being generally sad.
– Irritability or Restlessness
– Taking no joy and finding no interest in the things you used to enjoy
– Failure to perform sexually
– Problems sleeping
– Constant Fatigue
– Problems concentrating and deciding
– No appetite or, adversely to much of an appetite
– Your mind wandering to dark places like suicide.
