This is the first in a two step guide centred on the very best ways to set up and maintain a diet to control your diabetes. Type two diabetes can be managed through the use of diet, exercise and blood-sugar monitoring, it’s important to understand how best to achieve this diet so as to control your condition. Once you’ve learnt how to keep your diabetes under control you’ll be free to live your life normally as you once did, the tricky bit is getting to this point but don’t worry we’re here to help!

  1. Physical Imperatives – Consistent research has show that through the combined use of diet and exercise you can manage your type two diabetes to greatest effect. One without the other will only do half a job and learning to balance the two can be an issue for many to begin with but with the right motivation and the mind set you’ll find that it easy to do and keep doing.
  2. The Most Important Meal of the Day – All of the most effective diabetic diets involve eating breakfast and not eating this most important of meals can lead to you overeating later in the day. This in turn sets your blood-sugar into spasm and make it much more difficult to manage in the long run. Try cereal as this has been shown to aid you in losing weight.
  3. Cut Out the Calories – In all weight loss regimes calorie counting is recommended and diabetic dieting is no different. Men should be eating between 1400 and 2000 calories a day and women should be on around 1500. It depends entirely on how old you are and your weight, more specific details can be found on Yourwellness.com, don’t be afraid to hunt around a bit!
  4. Fibrey Goodness – Eating lots of fibre is great for type two diabetics as it helps to keep your blood-sugar levels nice and low and improve whatever weight loss you’re attempting. Try and have three servings of fibre a day and give yourself a good variety of fibrous food so as not to get bored with it!
