Just because you are getting older does not mean you cannot enjoy a high quality of life. Despite persistent beliefs and attitudes about aging, you can truly look and feel 20 and even 30 years younger than your age. Plan Ahead!
One of the biggest things you should start doing now in order to have a great quality of life and age gracefully is to make sure you plan for your life after a career and raising children. Unfortunately, many Americans end up having to work into their seventies and even eighties because of a lack of planning for retirement. If you are still working, one of the first things you should start doing is saving in a 401k, IRA or another common retirement savings vehicle. Also, eliminate as much debt as possible. Pay off any loans, mortgages and consolidate all of your major credit cards. Find out now what are your major debt-based expenses and create a comprehensive financial plan that will allow you to pay off debt.

Embrace Healthy Living 
Daily exercise, healthy eating and meditation are all important aspects to the art of aging gracefully. Studies have shown that those who perform daily aerobic exercise increase their lifespan by anywhere between 10 to 20 years! Start strength training in order to improve your muscular strength, flexibility and bone density. This is especially true for men. Older men typically see declines is testosterone levels around the age of 40. Strength training improves testosterone levels and also helps aid in boosting libido. Both older men and women should also start to seriously monitor their diet. Diets high in processed sugars and bad fats lead to a variety of health ailments such as diabetes, heart disease and cancer. Eat an abundance of vegetables, fruits, low-glycemic whole grains and lean meats. Studies have shown that low-carbohydrate diets filled with good fats help people maintain great lean figures, have awesome blood lipid panels and healthy hormonal levels.

Live in the right community 
Finally and most importantly, as you get older, plan to live in relative quiet and peace. City life can destroy one’s quality of life. Besides, living in these cities can be quite expensive and not worth the money in retirement. Places like this provide on-site chefs, fitness activities and other recreational programming for residents.
