Type Two Diabetes Is Coming For Your Kids. What Can You Do?
There was a time in which the different types of diabetes were differentiated by more than their names and root causes. Type one diabetes was known as juvenile diabetes because it was almost always diagnosed at a young age and then stayed with a patient until they were much older. Type two diabetes was known as adult-onset diabetes because it was generally brought about later in life and affected children much less.
With the rise of obesity, a condition which is seen as one of the main contributing factors in the contraction of type two diabetes, cases of type two diabetes have reach epidemic levels. What’s even more worrying than this sudden rise in this terrible affliction is that it’s affecting more and more children.
Unlike type one diabetes which is caused almost entirely by genetics and outside stimuli, type two diabetes is brought about by us and as such it can be prevented from ever taking root in the first place. As always, prevention is better than cure.
Make Sure Your Kids Never Even Get Close…
- Healthy snacks are extremely important. Kids love sugar and everything filled with additives but that doesn’t mean that’s what they should have. Keep an eye on the food they’re eating and steer clear of anything unnatural or processed where you can!
- Make fast food into a treat and don’t let it become a regular thing. That way you can use it as a reward for good behaviour and maintain your kids’ diet and nutrition at the same time. Two big birds, one little stone.
- Activity is important, especially in kids. Encourage them playing with other children, sports and anything which gets them moving around. For most children this shouldn’t be too difficult but for some it might be a bit of a challenge. Remember that everything is easier when it’s fun, it might take some trial and error but eventually you’re going to find something your kids love doing!
