Diabetics, Listen Up While You Still Can!
Diabetes is a condition which has potentially far reaching consequences. It’s not like arthritis or asthma which only affects one part of the body, diabetes damages your metabolism and affects the contents of your blood stream and as such it has the potential to damage any part of the body. Because of how relatively common diabetes is in the world today it can often be ignored or overlooked in terms of danger. Just because it’s common doesn’t make it harmless and it’s about time we all acknowledged this epidemic as the danger it truly is!
One of the more worrying aspects of diabetes is that, though we understand a lot about it we don’t nearly understand everything. This goes for just why it occurs in the first place but also for the myriad of ways it can affect or damage us. We know that diabetes can cause damage to the eyes and the kidneys, it can cause diabetic neuropathy which is damage to the nerve endings resulting in loss of sensation and we know diabetes can have a negative impact on your heart’s health.
The massive list of potential dangers just got a little bit longer as researchers in Japan have discovered that diabetics of both type one and type two are also at a heightened risk of hearing loss. The researchers showed that patients with diabetes have as much as twice the likelihood of contracting hearing issues as non-diabetic patients.
Of course as with all of the damage which diabetes causes, it only occurs if you let the condition get out of control. Providing you take the extra time and effort to properly manage your condition and keep your levels of blood-sugar under control there’s no reason for you to suffer for your condition at all! Diabetes can be lived with providing you give it the respect it deserves.
