5 Simple Steps For Achieving Your Fitness Goals
There is no shortage of advice around when you want to get fit. But finding the right information that will work for you can often be a little trickier. Your fitness program will depend on a lot of different factors, such as your current health and weight, what your ultimate goal is and any long-term gains you intend to enjoy.
Here are 5 tips that can help you achieve your fitness goals, no matter what point you’re starting from.
- Set achievable targets. Small goals that can be reached will grow your confidence. If you need to lose weight, aim to lose 7lbs at any one time. The same technique applies, for example, if you’re planning to take part in a half marathon or marathon. Build up your distance running over a matter of weeks and months so you build up endurance and strength.
- Forget the fads and go for a balanced diet that gives you the nutrition you need. Get advice from a dietician on including the right balance of proteins, carbohydrates, minerals and vitamins in your daily intake. Cut back on sugar, salt and fatty food, reduce how much alcohol you have and make sure you drink plenty of water every day.
- Embark on a varied fitness routine. It’s too easy to get bored and disillusioned if you stick to one activity, such as a treadmill or weights at the gym, and don’t start to see instant results. You’re more likely to get fitter more quickly if you have something different to do daily. Get a fitness instructor to design an individual program for you. For an even cheaper regime, walk for 20-30 minutes every day and go swimming two or three times a week.
- Stay positive. A good mental attitude is every bit as important as good physical health. Look for the positives when things aren’t going your way and learn to accept the things you cannot change.
- Give yourself a break. You don’t have to work out 7 days a week to become fitter and healthier so enjoy your rest days and stay motivated and energised for your next workout. Make sure you sleep properly as this is crucial to helping your body repair and renew.
