It’s a very common occurrence to find yourself stressed at work. After all, work is a stressful place filled with deadlines and pressure. Unfortunately, however, it seems that increasingly work stress is spilling over into our personal lives thanks to the fact that we are always attached to our work emails and messages.
In the past, time at home was the perfect way to de-stress and ensure that you were rejuvenated for the next day at work. Detaching yourself from work – mentally, physically and emotionally, meant that you got the essential time away from work that you need. But now with almost everyone owning a smart phone, tablet or laptop, people are increasingly finding themselves constantly attached to work.
Experts from Kansas State University researched the stress crossover between working couples, work-family stress management and recovery from stress. They have also suggested that when one member of a couple becomes stressed from overwork, it naturally begins to affect the other partner as well.
As competition in the workplace has become more intense, people worry about their job security, or they want to get a pay increase or advance their career. This often makes workers feel obliged to stay attached to their job at all times to ensure they are always ahead of the game.
The experts have suggested that a balance is required between work and home life. You should set self-regulated rules for use of technologies for work when you are outside of work time.
It’s also notable the companies benefit from having workers who are less stressed and completely relaxed during working hours. Research has shown that employees who unwind from work during their free time are actually more productive when they return to work.
