Two Key Things Parents Of Newborns Should Know
Becoming a parent is one of the most amazing experiences that a person can have. You prepare for so long before the birth and go through every scenario in your head. But sometimes when the baby arrives there are some things that you were not expecting and don’t know how to deal with. Don’t panic as it’s natural to be worried at this time. Here are a couple of common experiences that new parents might not always realise happens.
Parents are usually deprived of sleep in the first couple of months after the baby is born
Parenthood is an important milestone in your life. But there is a world of difference between talking about it and the real thing. There are a lot of things that can cause you to lose sleep – the baby’s irregular sleeping pattern is difficult to get used to and that rare time that you can get some sleep you can stay up for hours worrying about your child.
The important thing to remember is that worrying is natural but you shouldn’t let it consume you. Babies are more robust than they look! Get plenty of skin-to-skin contact with your baby as this will reduce their irritability and crying, and that can only be a good thing for you.
Newborn babies are very prone to infections
When babies are first-born they still identify with their mother’s heartbeat, but crucially their immune system also recognises the mother’s bacteria as normal. This means that the mother needs to do the majority of the handling when the baby is born.
Keep your baby in a clean environment at all times and ensure that any visitors use hand sanitisers before they pick the baby up. This minimises the possibility of infection which is great for your peace of mind.
