How To Utilise The Power Of The Fork
There is a real problem that has overtaken the world. We are now suffering from an invisible epidemic of global health problems; let’s look at a number of examples. 162 million Americans have chronic diseases and 29 million people across the globe die each year from preventable lifestyle diseases, killing twice as many as infectious disease, and this figure is likely to soon rise to around 50 million. Perhaps more worryingly still, 1.4 billion people are now overweight; that’s almost double the number of those who are malnourished.
While we used to think of Type 2 diabetes as a problem in rich countries, it’s now known that over 80 percent of cases of the condition are in the developing world. And it’s not just what we’re doing to our bodies either. The harm that we are doing to our health is linked in a complex web to the harm we do to the planet. That includes the degradation of our environment, air and water. These are all very worrying signs, but what can we do about it?
Well, it starts with the simple things and what could be simpler than the humble fork? The fork is your secret to improve health and promote a better future. Instead of going to fast food restaurants and stuffing food into your mouth with your hands, why not try staying at home and eating healthy foods with your fork.
A new movement has been formed which is promoting this idea. April 7th is known as the ‘global eat-in’ where thousands of people across the world cook and eat real food with family members and friends at home. Imagine if, just for this single day, everyone chose to buy only fresh, whole, real, sustainably-raised or harvested food. It would show us what is possible for our health and how much better it is to eat like this.
