Ingredients of Khichdi

  • 50 gm rice
  • 30 gm butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon powdered turmeric
  • 1 number potato
  • 1 cup water
  • 50 gm green moong dal
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds
  • 1 number green chilli

How to make Khichdi

Step 1

Clean the rice and split green gram (moong dal) in running water, and soak them in water for half an hour. Peel the potatoes and cut into fine pieces and finely chop the green chillies.

Step 2

Next, put a pressure cooker on medium flame and melt butter in it. Quickly, add fennel seeds to the melted butter and saute for a few seconds. Now, add the green chillies in the cooker and fry for a minute until light brown in colour.

Step 3

Then, add potato pieces and fry them for a minute, and then add turmeric powder to it and cook for a few seconds.

Step 4

Now add split green gram (moong daal) and rice in the cooker and add salt as per your taste. After this, add two times the water to the rice and moog daal (you can measure the bowl with the bowl which you measure rice and daal).

Step 5

Close the cooker and cook it for three to four whistles. Close the flame after the four whistle. Let the cooker cool for some time. After about five minutes, when the pressure of the cooker is over, open the cooker.

Step 6

Delicious moong dal and rice khichdi is ready to serve. Take out the khichdi in a plate or a dish and put butter in hot khichdi.
