5 Passionate Ways to Celebrate This Week’s Super Blue Blood Moon
On January 31, moon lovers will have three lunar events to be excited about. For the first time in 36 years, the moon will be larger than usual (a supermoon), full for the second time in one month (a blue moon) and blocked from the sun’s rays by Earth (a lunar eclipse). In case you haven’t gathered as much already, this is a time for some great lunar juju, and there are plenty of ways to take full advantage of the event.
Full moons are a time to take action. Unlike new moons, during which we often reflect, turn inward and set intentions, full moons arouse our passions and give us the extra oomph we need to make things happen. Here are five of our favorite ways to get the most out of this supercharged early-year Super Blue Blood Moon and lunar eclipse.
TAKE ACTION
If you are starting to lose your resolve about your New Year’s resolutions, now’s the time to reawaken your vigor. Before the 31st, decide upon a big task that would really help you get closer to accomplishing a major goal. Then make a plan to execute that action on the 31st.
MEDITATE… WITH BREATHWORK
There are many types of meditation out there, but a supercharged event like this week’s calls for an energy-inducing breathwork session.
Start by sitting in a comfortable position, such as cross-legged or kneeling. Close your eyes and begin to inhale and exhale deeply. Over the course of five minutes, lengthen and deepen your breaths so that they become forceful yet controlled. Then, take it a step further by holding your breath for 15 seconds at the top of your inhale and at the bottom of your exhale.
WRITE A LOVE LETTER
Full moons are known to awaken people’s passions, so the 31st is a great time to write a love letter. It doesn’t have to be something you intend to send. A symbolic letter is totally okay. Another option I love? Write the love letter to yourself!
GATHER YOUR COMMUNITY
With all the energy that will be making its way around on the 31st, now is a great time to strike up new friendships. Host a party — with the full moon’s energy, it’s likely to be a fun one — and make it a point to introduce new people to each other. You’ll be setting an energized, friendly tone for the year to come.
TAKE A BATH
Not everyone feels like socializing on the full moon, and that’s okay. If you’d rather spend the evening in solitude, make yourself a sensual bath with essential oils, rose petals and candlelight. The best scents for a full moon are citrus (such as orange or lemon), rose and sandalwood. Use the bath as an opportunity to get in touch with your sensual side.
