What’s the deal with double cleansing?

Cleansing is the first step in every skincare routine – and by this we do not mean just splashing some H2O on your face. Washing your face with a cleanser is essential, especially when you need to pretty much remove all the dirt, grime, and oil that collects through the day. You need to literally cleanse away the day, because the pollution and dust make the skin a breeding ground for bacteria resulting in early ageing, acne breakouts, and hyperpigmentation.

Unlike a lot of confusing beauty terms, double cleansing is pretty direct – it means cleansing your skin with more than one product for effective results. That brings us to the obvious lazy question, ‘isn’t once enough?’. And the answer is no.

How to double cleanse?

The first step to double cleansing is to remove your makeup with a remover and not wipes. Oils, micellar water, and balms work wonders when removing any product from the face. This breaks-down the makeup on your face and neck, and makes it easier to wash away. Next wash it off with water and a gel (if you’ve got oily skin) or a creamy (if you’ve got dry skin) face cleanser. Remember, your cleanser is only efficient if you massage it into your skin for about a minute. This ensures that your pores are deep cleaned and are spick and span.

When to double cleanse?

Double cleansing is effective during both, your morning and evening cleanse. However, since your pores go through a whirlwind of pollution, dirt, and dust, the evening cleanse is more significant (this doesn’t entail you skipping your morning routine).

How does it help?

Double cleansing keeps your pores makeup and dirt free. This helps with breakouts, makes skin appear a lot more radiant, and also allows for efficient application of products such as creams, serums, and facial oils – so you won’t be wasting expensive product anymore.
