5 Summer Activities for People Who Hate the Beach
Let’s face it… A huge percentage of people think “summer activities” basically equate to days at the beach (or the pool). While the beach is great for some, others find it too hot, too sandy, too sunny (hello sunburn) and littered with party-goers and loud groups.
If you don’t love the beach—or if you don’t have a beach in your area—there are still plenty of fun summertime activities to enjoy. Here are a few of my favorite ideas.
Walk Dogs
Taking one to four pups for a sunny walk is not only great for you, but great for the dogs as well. Walking dogs is a great way to get out and explore new neighborhoods of your city on foot. Don’t have a dog of your own? No problem. Earn some extra cash while you walk dogs with apps like Rover or Wag. Just remember not to keep pups out too long in the hot sun!
Attend a Renaissance Fair
Most regions of the country are home to Renaissance fairs, a somewhat nerdy but also fun and charming event beloved by history buffs and cosplayers alike. Attend a Renaissance fair in your area to browse artisan crafts, enjoy food and drinks, watch live entertainment and partake in some seriously interesting people-watching.
Find Movies or Music in the Park Events
Do a quick Google search to check out Music in the Park or Movies in the Park events in your town. Most towns, including small suburbs, have these kinds of events. They can be a fantastic and free way to connect with your neighbors, enjoy some time outside and savor all that your town has to offer.
Go Biking
Whether you live in a big city or a small town, there are no doubt biking options nearby. Rent a bike if you don’t own one — most cities have urban bike rental programs to take advantage of — and hit the trails (or lanes).
Do Sunrise Yoga
Look up sunrise yoga classes in your area to greet the summer day with a good yoga flow. No sunrise yoga classes in your area? Just hop on YouTube and find a free class to do by yourself.
