Doctors warn of pneumonia season

Doctors are warning that it’s not just the flu they should be weary of this time of year, but also pneumonia.

According to health experts, pneumonia is an infection of the lungs that can have very serious consequences. One in every 20 people who are hospitalized with pneumonia dies, experts say.

Dr. Nelson Eng, of the Union Community Health Center, says that symptoms include coughing, shortness of breath and chest tightness.

Doctors say that senior citizens and young children are at higher risk because they are less likely to notice the symptoms right away.

Doctors recommend getting enough rest, drinking a lot of fluids, seeing a doctor for an annual physical, making sure your immunization shots are up-to-date and washing your hands often.
