Dispenser training turns to osteoarthritis

Around 10 million people in the UK have arthritis, and it is one of the leading causes of disability. The most common form of the condition in the UK is osteoarthritis, with around 8.5 million people thought to be affected. Although it is usually considered a disease of the elderly, osteoarthritis can affect younger people, and the disease can have a huge impact on the life of patients and their close family and friends.

This training, available free and exclusively to DDA members, is designed to provide practice dispensary staff with background information on osteoarthritis so you can help your patients better manage their condition. Thanks to the various activities and multiple choice questions in the text, it will help dispensers to:

  • know what osteoarthritis is, the parts of the body that are most likely to be affected and the groups of people who are at highest risk of developing the condition
  • have an understanding of how osteoarthritis is diagnosed and managed.

Previous training modules have looked at asthma, using inhalers, diabetes, using insulin devices, COPD, branded prescribing, thyroid problems, epilepsy, glaucoma, hypertension, sustainability, chronic fatigue syndrome, equality, depression, motivational interviewing, dementia and gout.

This DEM on OA and the DEM on gout will also appear in the first of four DDA Online educational supplements being printed and distributed to Actavis customers this week, courtesy of an educational grant from the company.
