Bradford Telegraph and Argus: Angling round-up

Angling round-up

LISTERHILLS AA

We would like to thank those who turned up for last week’s working party at Pilley’s. This is in addition to the ongoing work of levelling off the path round the far bank, as well as repairs to the platforms. Anglers fishing club waters must be in possession of a membership book. Money allegedly paid without a proper receipt do not count. The trout season started on Tuesday. The only permitted baits on the rivers are fly, worm, minnow and artificial lures. No meat or cereal baits are allowed and no fish are to be retained in keep nets until the coarse season starts on Monday, June 16. A reminder that the current Environment Agency licence expires at the end of the month. By law anyone aged over 12 must obtain one before fishing. There are concessions for senior citizens, the disabled and youths. They are available from post offices. The next members’ match at Pilley’s is on Sunday, April 6. This fishery has been producing carp up to mid-doubles and should improve as the weather warms up.

BRADFORD No1 AA

The final round of this year’s Raskelf Winter Series fished very well, considering the cold water temperatures. Fred Prudham won the match with 52lb of F1s on pole and maggot, with Andy Jacques catching 42lb 7oz for second place. Third position went to Matt Foster with 20lb 12oz, followed by James Vickerman with 15lb of skimmer bream. James’ 32 points helped him clinch the overall standings for the four-match series with a total of 107, just one ahead of Andy Jacques. Howard Foster finished third overall with 96 points, narrowly beating Chris Pitman (95). The next match will be a members’ match at Raskelf on Sunday, April 27, which is now sold out. Chellow Dene is continuing to fish well for nets of roach and chub on maggot.

BRADFORD PALS AC

Spring has arrived but you would not have thought so for our Sunday match at Brafferton on the Ghost Lake. Gale-force winds, waves, rain and large hail stones made for an interesting day, so well done to the 16 anglers who fished. Result: 1 Andy Clough 52lb 12oz, 2 Bernie Hook 31lb 0oz, 3 Geoff Darke 27lb 0oz, 4 Trevor Wood 26lb 1oz. Our next match is on Sunday, April 13 on the New Junction Canal at Sykehouse Lock. We have pegs 422 to 441, which are from the bottom of the lock to the swing bridge. The draw will be at 9am. Everyone is booked on for this match, so if you cannot make it you must notify the match secretary by Sunday, April 6 or you will be charged a peg fee.

GREAT HORTON AC

Result of Sunday match at Highbank Raker Lake: 1 O Hudspith (27lb 14oz – mostly silvers), 2 D Riley (16lb 9oz – mostly silvers), 3 A Hillary (14lb 8oz – carp and silvers), 4 Sarah Riley (13lb 14oz). Sarah only had three silvers up to the last half hour of the match but then latched on to a 13lb 8oz common carp. This was the biggest fish caught in a Great Horton Angling Club match so far. Well fished, Sarah.

CLAYTON AC

The first match of the year is on Sunday, April 6 at None Go Bye Farm in Cookridge. We are fishing the canal lake from 10am until 4pm. The draw will take place at 8.45am at the venue. To book on call Jason on 07787-148642 before Tuesday, April 1. All match fees are £18 this year. Your own keep nets are required. No floating baits are allowed on this match.

BINGLEY AC

Two nights of frost and cold rain made for a difficult day’s fishing in Sunday’s match on the canal at Crossflatts. Results: 1 A Greenwood 1lb 12oz, 2 B Granger 1lb 1oz, 3 R Thornton 1lb. There is a work party at Settler Dam on Sunday, April 6 to clear weed. All volunteers are welcome.

FIELD AC

Our next match is at Birkwood Farm on Sunday, April 6. All those fishing should remember to bring two keep nets. Bernie Hook is sitting pretty at the top of the averages after the first match. Can anyone knock him off that top spot?

CENTRAL AC

Our first match is at Birkin on Sunday, April 13. Meet 8am at the venue for fishing from 9am to 3pm. All remaining peg fees have to be paid on the day and all members must be in possession of a current Environment Licence.

HEWENDEN AC

The last pike match of the series will be held on Sunday, with a 9am draw in the car park and costing £10 all in. All members are welcome. Would all members park responsibly and not block the gateways into the lake.
