Viking Archers win Ripley Invitational
RIPLEY – The defending State Champion Ripley High archery team was in top form last Saturday when Viking shooters won the Ripley Invitational Tournament. Ripley High scored 3407 points followed by Shady Spring 3335, Herbert Hoover 3206 and Parkersburg South 2893.
There were few seats to be had in the Ripley Health Center Gymnasium as archery enthusiasts from around Jackson and surrounding counties were on hand to watch young shooters compete for High School coaches Tess Gump and Tom Kruk.
In the boys individual division, Nick Rhodes took first place with a score of 295, Carter Fisher was second (292), Cory Walters was fourth (290) and Levi Staats took fifth (288).
In the girls division, Cayla Goodson’s (285) was good for second place, Jenny Gibbs was fourth (279) and Sarah Evans fifth (279).
Qualifying scorers for Ripley were; Jacob Williams 287, Matt Caruthers 281, Isaac Sergent 281, Nick Nettleton 276 and Andrea Weese 274.
Other scorers for Ripley included Brandon Harpold 276, Corey Hill 276, Jeffery Sheppard 275, Bill White 273, Tyler Smith 269, Becca Thompson 266, Fayth Lanham 263, Logan Williams 260, Faythe Maston 252, Quincy Martin 250, Abby Edwards 247, Emily Evans 243, Sarah Welling 236, Isabella Perry 221, Brooke Boggess 188, Triston Lanham (no score available), Katie Bailey 253, Merci Casto 249, Zach Casto 236, Kassie Williams 259, Stetson Crowder 233, Brody Snyder 266, Kody Weese 251 and Morgan Casto 253.
The Ripley Middle School archers of Coach J.T.Hatcher took second place overall with a score of 3159.
Shady Spring took top honors (3334).
Michaela Dickenson was RMS’s individual winner taking fifth place with a score of 273. Their scorers were; Dakota Parsons 276, Destin Parsons 276, Olivia Hatcher 267, Savanna Hatfield 266, Teri Walker 264, Casey Jewell 263, Courtney Brown 259, Megan Casto 257. Titus Perrine 256, Chance Jewell 255 and Tucker Williams 255.
