The Power Of Fasting

Abstaining from food and/or drink for a period of time has received both positive and negative attention in recent years. The practice has a long history within dozens of faiths including Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, branches of Christianity etc in which it has been promoted as an aspect of spiritual observance and bodily purity. While deliberate self-starvation can have serious consequences – including heart arrhythmia, electrolyte imbalances and renal failure – there is some evidence that intermittent fasting, such as alternate-day calorie restriction, could have beneficial effects on health and wellness and may even help you live longer. If you want to fast for more than a few days, it’s wise to seek medical advice first.
