Feng Shui For The Kitchen
To help your kitchen become balanced, and stay that way, you can apply the principles of Feng shui. Pronounced ‘fung shway’, it is an ancient Chinese practice of how energy affects people positively or negatively. One of the primary principles of feng shui in the kitchen is that you want the energy in your kitchen to connect with the natural life forces outside. You must allow the energy to flow freely through your kitchen. Having excessive clutter this flow will be hampered. Here are a few tips to improve the energy of your kitchen:
- Energy flows best along curving spaces, so ovals and circles are preferable to jutting corners and sharp straight lines. An orderly kitchen will create positive energy flow.
- Don’t place the stove opposite a door, next to the sink or fridge, or under a window because this disrupts the flow of energy and creates a clashing of elements. If you can’t change the placement of the stove, place a vase with water between the stove and the other appliance.
- Keep knives in a drawer or a knife block to keep their negative energy under wraps.
- If the kitchen is visible from the main door of the home, put up a screen or hang a curtain or beads to prevent the energy from flowing out of the room and out of the house.
- Bring in living energy. Fresh flowers, plants, and bowls of fruits and vegetables improve the energy of the kitchen. Get rid of dried flowers, unhealthy plants and rotting fruits. They create an unhealthy energy.
- Energy needs to be able to flow around the kitchen. Don’t let energy rush through the kitchen and escape quickly. Doors in and out of the kitchen should not directly face each other. If you don’t have a choice, hang wind chimes to redirect the flow of energy.
- Make sure that all the gadgets work. Don’t ignore maintenance issues. Fix items quickly. Feng shui says that every job left half-done obstructs energy flow and reflects an aspect of your life that is incomplete and demands attention.
- If you hang wall art in your kitchen do it with consciousness. Your choice of images and symbols is considered a message from your subconscious. Look around the room to determine what kinds of messages you may have unwittingly projected into your space. Hang a picture of a fruit bowl, or a large happy family gathered together, or a print of an exotic place you want to visit.
