Toxic Metals In Plant Milk, Mixed-Fruit Juices

A new study from the Tulane University, USA, has found that some commonly consumed beverages contain levels of toxic metals that exceed drinking water standards. Researchers found that when the commonly-found beverages, like single and mixed fruit juices, plant-based milks, sodas, and teas, were measured for different toxic metals and trace elements, some of them exceeded acceptable levels of nickel, manganese, boron, cadmium, strontium, arsenic, and selenium. The findings, published in the ‘Journal of Food Composition and Analysis’, say that mixed-fruit juices and plant-based milks like oat and almond contain elevated levels of toxic metals more often than other drinks. Since these soft drinks are consumed in smaller quantities than water, the health risks for adults are most likely low. But people should avoid giving infants and young children mixed-fruit juices or plant-based milks at high volume.
