Despite Action, N.J. Gov. Christie Warns Again Of Pension Crisis

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie says ballooning pension costs are creating a “looming crisis.” In 2011, Christie teamed up with legislators to pass a pension overhaul. Local leaders celebrated the plan which raised the retirement age for workers, and required increased contributions from both taxpayers and municipal employees, as a big step toward fiscal health. Three years later, the pension fund is still billions of dollars in debt.
