Menlowe Ballet’s latest four-show production, “Transcendence,” takes the Menlo-Atherton Performing Arts Center stage this weekend, with a “Community Day” performance at 2 p.m. Saturday giving members of nonprofit and school communities a chance to see the performance free.
Complimentary tickets have been given to the Boys and Girls Club of the Peninsula, Beechwood School, Habitat for Humanity, the Riekes Center for Human Enhancement, and teachers at Menlo-Atherton High School, according to Lisa Shiveley of Atherton, the ballet company’s executive director.
“One of the reasons we started Menlowe Ballet was to address an under-served community in professional performing arts offerings,” Ms. Shiveley explained. “We also strongly believe in our opportunity and obligation to expose under-served populations to our art form. These dual missions come together well with the Community Day concept.”
“Transcendence” opens tomorrow (April 4) in an 8 p.m. performance. The production features “Pas de Cinq” by guest choreographer Dennis Nahat. It also includes the premiere of Menlowe Ballet artistic director and co-founder Michael Lowe’s individual work, “Transcendence,” and a reprise of his dynamic and well-received “Tribute,” which debuted at the company’s November show, “Lineage.”
