Volunteers re-fence fire affected reserve
Local community members took time out from their busy routines to help with the re-fencing of the Jutland Water Reserve that was affected by fire in January.
The Marne River passes through the 4 hectare reserve on Jutland Road which includes a memorial to the families of the WW1 soldier settlers of the area.
For three days community volunteers, including a group from Blazeaid, rebuilt 800 metres of boundary fences.
Coordinator of the event, Eden Valley resident, David Lillecrapp, was delighted with the community response.
“Local church groups, neighbouring landowners and community members from all over the district lent a hand to help in the effort,” David said.
“I was delighted to see the interest shown by everyone and especially those who provided food for the workers over the three days.I want to say a big thank you to everyone.”
Maintenance of the reserve will pass from the Spring Valley Landcare Group to the Eastern Hills and Murray Plains Catchment Group in the near future and there is still plenty to do with flood gates to be installed and revegetation to take place.
