Calming the Mind with Mindful Relaxation
Nowadays, so many of us get trapped in endless thinking patterns that leave us disconnected from our bodies. The mind, constantly thinking of one thing and then the next stops us from relaxing and wastes a lot of energy. To succeed at being healthy and content in this hectic life you need some tools to help relax your body and calm your mind. There are things you can do to relieve these endless thought patterns.
Choose relaxing activities and approach them mindfully, in order to enhance their effect. Be aware of your body and treat each process like a healing ritual.
Take a warm bath or shower – be aware of how soothing the water feels on your body. Pay close attention to the invigorating effect of a hot shower – why not accompany this with visualizing all your worries being washed away down the plug-hole? When taking a bath, treat it like a ritual; light candles in your bathroom and give thanks to the water for cleansing you. After a long soak, take out the plug and let the water run out, imagining all your negative thoughts going with it.
Walk barefoot on the earth – the feeling of your bare feet touching the grass and connecting to the earth is very liberating. Give thanks to Mother Nature for nourishing and supporting you and really concentrate on the feeling of your bare feet touching the earth. Walk in this awareness or dance a little to celebrate life. Stand firmly on the earth and imagine all your negative thoughts leaving your body through your feet flowing away into the ground.
Simple everyday things can be a source of wellbeing if you stay aware of what your body is feeling; this effect can be deepened by approaching such actions as healing rituals. You can get wonderful wellness benefits from a mindful approach to life, which is a complementary therapy you can take anywhere with you.
