World series qualifier in Young
Hold onto your hats Young – for the first time ever we’re about to host one of the qualifying rounds of the World Series Team Roping Australia and it’s going to be big.
Young Pro Rodeo Club has offered their facilities to the East Coast Team Roping Association for the event which will be running qualifying rounds from 9am on Sunday in the pro rodeo arena at Toompang Racecourse.
Organisers are expecting up to 50 teams of Riverina’s best of the best in each event, including the dozen or so representing Young.
“It’s an international event – people are able to qualify for the finale in Las Vegas,” one organiser Michael Kearney said.
“We chose to hold [this round] in Young to try and capture [as many competitors from the Riverina as possible].”
Successful riders in Young will qualify for the Australian finale held in Tamworth in September, which leads to the World Series in Las Vegas in December.
Those who make it to Las Vegas will be competing for $7 million in prize money.
Entry free to spectators – with refreshments offered on site.
The event is expected to finish at 4pm.
