Want to stop your Heart Attacking? RUN FOR IT

Heart failure is one of the biggest killers in the USA and the western world. It’s happily marched alongside the rising levels of obesity, an angry little demon which people could easily avoid but for the most part, don’t. It’s precursor, heart disease is a slow decline in the function on the heart which eventually leads to its failure. The thing with both of these conditions is that, even with a strong genetic disposition towards them, you can take yourself out of the risk groups by making a few simple lifestyle changes and making sure you pay attention to your health.

Admittedly it’s hard to go from eating what you want, when you want, to not. It’s a jump but then, at the end of the day if it’s going to save your life, what are you really complaining about? People with diseases which can’t simply be pushed away with exercise and weight loss would jump at the ability to beat their illness, so what’s your excuse for not getting on with it?

If you’re determined to make yourself better and you’ve got the emotional fortitude to make it happen then we’ve got some great tips for you. First monitor your heart rate and take note of any discrepancies, if they persist then contact your GP. Make sure you find a good, healthy and nutritious diet which you think you can stick to and then start sticking to it. There’s no point on going from seven cakes a day to the maple syrup diet, you’re unlikely to succeed and it’ll cause all sorts of issues for you. Make changes gradually and make sure you make targets you can actually hit!
Dieting will contribute towards weight loss and a healthier heart but the really powerful preventative is exercise. Don’t groan! Find something you like doing, it doesn’t have to be running on the spot in the gym or sport of any kind, take up paintballing or walking. Ride a horse or try and find some volunteer or paid work which is physically demanding. If you don’t enjoy it then the chances are that you won’t keep it up and the aim here is to make lifestyle changes you can actually stick to!
