Toxin Free is the way to be…

For those of us who can’t quite afford the organic bandwagon and all its perks or, for those of us who don’t want to hop on because we’re simply not fans, getting the best produce can be tricky. It’s not about the quality of the fruit and veg we’re eating, it’s more a concern towards what’s been used on them to make sure they grow so big and healthy and what’s been used to kill off all the pests who’d hinder that. In small quantities these pesticides will be relatively harmless but at the end of the day, poison is poison and even in small quantities it’s not going to be good for you. It’s even worse for kids who’re more at risk due to their smaller body size.
What can you do about this? Pesticides maintain low prices in produce because they guarantee a certain sized yield for formers, when there’s more of something it’s cheaper. This is the economic law of the world. Well, there are a small group of fruits and veg which are resistant to absorbing these pesticides and very easily cleaned to remove all trace of them.

Stick it in the pan…

–       Onions, they’ve got loads of layers and a hardy peel. Any pesticides should stay on the peel and leave the onion itself toxin free!

–       Sweet Potatoes, thick skins and peeled to eat they don’t draw in much pesticide and they’re very good for you!

–       Sweet Corn, easiest to wash while on the cob. The husk is discarded completely taking most toxin away with it.

–       Aubergine, these veggies have a surprisingly tough skin, they’re great for you and very easy to wash!

–       Pineapple, again the skin is removed and this takes most possible toxin away with it.
