The Power of Human Touch

When was the last time you hugged someone? In today’s society personal contact and the healing properties of touch are often underestimated.  Consider how much time we spend on our computers, instead of interacting with our friends and family.  When you embrace or reassure a close friend or loved one it can actually change their brain chemicals to feel relaxed and calm.

Those of us who were not given enough affection when young, can develop problems in later life, such as the inability to control negative emotions, high blood pressure, and Irritable Bowel Syndrome. As adults, we still have a need of reassuring inter-personal contact.  That is one reason why we benefit so much from massage – the best known complementary therapy based on the power of touch. A soothing massage can really help your sense of wellbeing.

There are many different types of massage for you to try. Some of the more well-known are listed here:

Swedish massage – like a sports massage, used mainly for treating your muscles and soothing a stiff back.

Thai Massage – deep pressure point massage while stretching the body.

Cranial Sacral Therapy – this helps adjust and realign the body and is excellent for back problems.

It is a good idea to make sure your massage therapist is qualified and a member of a relevant trade association before booking your appointment.  Research all the types of massage available in your local area to find what would best suit your needs.  Soon, you will be well on the road to complete wellness.
