Vegetables for a Happy Baby

Vegetables are good for your baby but generally don’t help to soothe a stomach any more than other foods. By using this simple guide you’ll learn which vegetables to put into their diets and which should be avoided to allow for better digestion. Remember, if your baby continually suffers from stomach or digestive issues then it’s probably best to consult your family doctor to be on the safe side!

Constipation

This condition is uncomfortable for any sufferer, but to a baby who’s unable to express the discomfort in any effective way it can be agonising and easily missed. It’s suggested that high-fibre vegetables are used to help counteract constipation. For example peas, broccoli and beans would be great. Cook them until soft and then mash.

Gas

Look out for your child crying without remit, drawing their legs up to their bellies or farting a lot. Raw vegetables cause much more gas than cooked vegetables and certain types should be avoided entirely and substituted for other vegetables which cause less gas. Cruciferous vegetables like cabbage, sprouts, onions, peas or broccoli should be avoided. However, cooking these vegetables will help lower the chance of any discomfort for your child.

Intestinal Issues

If your baby has an issue with their intestines which involves vomiting or diarrhoea it’s important you go and talk to your doctor first. This is important as it’ll rule out anything serious and give you peace of mind. In most cases the doctor will recommend a bland diet until the upset is remedied. This will often include things like rice, bananas, carrots, cooked potatoes etc. Remember to cook these foods well and remove any skins or seeds to make them easier on your baby’s stomach.
