Seventeen year old Luke Hamilton of Coweta was the Rooster Days Bull Riding Champion on May 10, 2014.

Hamilton qualifies for the 2014 American Cowboys Rodeo Association finals and the 2014 JBR finals in the bull riding event.

This is Hamilton’s third time to qualify for the JBR finals. He was the 2013 Reserve Champion of the Junior Bull Riders Association of Oklahoma and the 2012 Average for the Year Champion.

In 2011, the Coweta teen had major surgery on his left riding hand and was forced to sit out one year of bull riding. However, exactly one year later to the day, he switched riding hands and was the 2013 Terry Don West Series I Champion bull rider.

He went on to win other bull riding events and titles including the Terry Don West Series III Bull Riding Champion, 2013 Flat Rock Bull Riding Champion and 2014 JBR Locust Grove Bull Riding Champion.

Hamilton rides bulls for more than just winning bull riding events but for a cause to help others. He wears a band on his wrist, “Pray for Morgan” to support a friend. He returns his winnings at rodeo fundraising events to help others in need.

Hamilton will compete in several fundraising and bull riding events this summer including Give Cancer the Boot in Broken Arrow on June 20 and the 2014 International Finals Youth Rodeo in Shawnee July 7-11.

Hamilton is a junior at Coweta High School and the son of Bruce and Celicia Hamilton.
